General Summary

HouseSpecial’s Editorial Assistant works with Editors, Compositors, Producers, and the Post Production Dept. Manager in all aspects of editing and post-production. The Editorial Assistant services the Post-Production Department by creating compressed video files, importing and transcoding media, creating compressed video reels, preparing and/or running dailies, as well as archiving or retrieving elements from the Media Vault.

As the last in-house person to touch elements and deliverables, a high level of detail and organization is a must. This position also handles shooting/assembling of marketing materials for the studio.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Make compressed video files for various delivery specs.

  • Responsible for quality control and timely delivery of all outgoing work.

  • Import/prepare video and audio elements for editors and compositors, including transcoding media from various cameras and file types.

  • Prepare and/or run dailies sessions with director/crew as necessary.

  • Organize, log, and track all production elements such as camera files, audio, compressed video files, imports, exports, etc. for each project.

  • Organize and assemble behind the scenes videos and stills for studio marketing and social media.

  • Organize and maintain Media Vault, Digital Projects Archive and Frame Archive by adding new elements, tracking traffic in and out of the vault and maintaining order in the physical and digital vaults.

  • Meet deadlines as established by the Post-Production Manager and Production Management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in film or related studies, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Understanding of different video and audio compression and transcoding techniques.

  • Acute attention to detail.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.

  • Ability to juggle various priorities and deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Proficiency with video editing software tools such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder and Apple Compressor.

  • General knowledge of post-production processes and strong organizational skills required

  • Able to work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Open to taking direction and able to embrace change.

Preferred Abilities and Knowledge

  • Photoshop, Avid Media Composer, and After Effects knowledge preferred.
