System Administrator

General Summary

The System Administrator provides critical IT support for all phases of animation production.  Working closely with Production Management, Directors, Artists, Animators and Technical staff to problem-solve and increase production efficiency.

Additionally, the SysAdmin assists the Post-Production department by creating compressed video files, importing and transcoding media, and creating compressed video reels.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the availability of critical IT infrastructure including enterprise storage/network/archival systems and desktop/mobile user support

  • Analysis of systems, workflows, topologies and configurations

  • Deployment and support of server and data center infrastructure

  • Ability to communicate in a constructive, proactive manner

  • Import/prepare video and audio elements for editors and compositors, including transcoding media from various cameras and file types

  • Actively safeguard HouseSpecial’s Proprietary and Confidential Information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Film or related studies, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience 


  • 2 years experience designing, deploying and administering high performance computing systems in a heterogenous environment

  • 2 years experience administering high performance networks, storage, automation, monitoring, security and VOIP infrastructure

  • 3 years client-facing user support experience in a creative environment

  • 3 years experience supporting digital content creation applications and licensing such as Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk Maya/Arnold/Shotgun/Flame, Foundry Nuke, Avid Media Composer, Qube, and Toon Boom Harmony,

  • Demonstrated ability to work with creative individuals

  • Understanding of different video and audio compression and transcoding techniques

  • Detailed understanding of TCP/IP and common service protocols

  • Proven troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to juggle various priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Preferred Abilities and Knowledge

  • Experience supporting an animation or film studio

  • Experience with RHEL, CentOS, MSAD, OSX, Xen, Vmware and Qwest (Dell) Kace

  • Experience supporting EMC/ISILON storage systems

  • Experience supporting MSOffice 365 and Google Suite

  • General knowledge of post-production processes and strong organizational skills required

  • Acute attention to detail

  • Strong entrepreneurial and team centered attitude

  • Experience supporting post-production shared media storage systems
