Q&A With Hung
Hung is a West Coast native who grew up in San Jose - not too far from Portland. He also wants a Borzoi (you should google that).
Degree? From where?
I’m currently working on a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Animation/Illustration at San Jose State University.
What inspires you?
Movies, games, TV shows and books! And artists! Being around other artists is really inspiring. Seeing other artists so locked into their craft only makes me more focused and inspired.
Why did you pick a career in animation?
When I was in the 7th grade, I thought a good way to impress girls was to get good at drawing. I don’t think that really panned out, but I’ve just kept up drawing ever since then. I grew up watching a lot of cartoons and animated films, so it only felt natural to get into the animation industry.
Thoughts about Portland?
Portland is amazing! So many great restaurants and food carts. I’m gonna miss it when I move back!
Favorite treat?
Thai iced tea!
When will you know that you’re successful?
Hard question... I think I’ll be successful when I can get my own dog!
When you were 6, what did you think you’d would be when you grew up?
I wanted be an astronaut and explore space. Who knows what’s out there!
What’s your biggest failure so far?
Probably when I ate too much pasta last night.
What is your most prized possession?
My backpack my girlfriend got for me! It’s got a nice “Space Explorer” patch she had sewn on it.
Favorite websites?
Hmm, my most favorite website used to be Grantland, but now they’re gone… I also really like gurneyjourney.blogspot.com and muddycolors.blogspot.com; they have great blogposts about painting, drawing, and the business of being an illustrator.
