Q&A with Joan
Joan is a recent graduate from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and is a bit of a quiet storm. Her visual work is lush, full of narrative and inspiring to our team.
What inspires you?
Photography, movies and people. I love to listen to people's stories. Everyone has her own story to tell and it's just fascinating.
Why did you pick a career in animation?
I think of animation as entertainment; it has a special way to tell stories that can inspire and bring positive impact on a younger generation. I also love to see my designs to come to life.
Thoughts about Portland?
Portland is a city that appreciates craftsmanship and is very hip. There are a lot of artisan local cafe, breweries and food. Good public transportation.
What is the future of animation?
I think animation is moving toward VR.
Favorite treat?
Indonesian turmeric fried chicken. Sooo good! I can eat that everyday and never get bored of it.
When will you know that you’re successful?
I think I am successful when I can inspire others to pursue their dreams.
When you were 6, what did you think you’d be when you grew up?
I want to be a painter. Hahaha.
What’s your biggest failure so far?
I almost lost my driver's license in the restroom.
What is your most prized possession?
I have an old Sony Ericsson flip phone that my dad bought for me for my birthday. I still keep it even though the phone is scratched and I don't have a charger any longer.
Why did you apply for the HouseSpecial internship?
I love stop motion and also want to have the opportunity to learn about commercial pipelines.
